Texas City Girl Killed in Truck Accident While Waiting for School Bus

An 11-year-old girl was struck by a semi-truck while waiting at a Texas City bus stop on Monday morning, officials reported.

The young girl who was killed was identified as Christina Lopez, a 6th grade student at Levi Fry Intermediate School.

Police said they were still investigating the big rig accident in Texas City that killed Lopez, and delving deeper into what may have sparked the crash. One aspect they are investigating is whether or not the sun may have been in eyes of the truck’s driver.

According to authorities, the driver was turning onto the street where Lopez was waiting for the school bus, 26th Street, when he struck the young girl. Officials believe Lopez was waiting in or near the grass. There was no sidewalk.
