A motorcyclist, and former Zavalla, Texas city councilman, was killed after being struck by a passenger vehicle in Angelina County, Tuesday evening.

Fifty-four-year-old John Wayne Dubose was transported to Lufkin Hospital, where he later died, officials said. Dubose was wearing a helmet at the time of the Texas motorcycle accident, authorities noted.

Police reports note that Dubose was traveling south on U.S. Highway 69 when he struck a 2010 Ford F150 pickup truck after the driver failed to yield right of way. The accident occurred at the intersection of FM 844 and Highway 69, Department of Public Safety Officials said.

Jade Elizabeth Smith, of Huntington, Texas, was identified as the driver of the Ford truck.

Dubose had previously served as a councilman for Zavalla City. He recently resigned last month.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Mr. Dubose.
