An 18 wheeler truck accident outside Fairfield, Texas claimed the life of the truck driver and sent the driver of the vehicle that was struck by the big rig to the hospital, officials reported.
Police identified the worker who was injured as 39-year-old Marcus Douglas Martin, a resident of Humble, Texas. Martin was stopped on I-45 with his hazard lights flashing at the time of the truck accident near Fairfield.
The driver of the 18 wheeler truck that struck Martin’s construction vehicle was identified as 38-year-old Johnny Reffitt, police said. Reffitt was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on I-45. Martin was transported to East Texas Medical Center. He was recently listed in good condition.
Construction zones can be particularly dangerous. But the added risks associated with the increased time it requires to fully stop a large truck or 18 wheeler coupled with the gigantic size of most trucks can make situations involving tractor trailers even more dangerous for drivers, passengers and surrounding vehicles and their occupants.
