The Carlson Law Firm Attorneys, Todd Kelly and Julie Peschel, obtained an $840,000 verdict for our client , Glen, that was injured in a car crash by a company truck.
Kelly and Peschel showed that Glen was stopped in his vehicle at a red light when a Loomis Armored Truck, weighing more than 17,000 pounds, slammed into the back of him. The truck was owned by the company and the driver was supposed to have been trained on safety regulations.
Surveillance camera’s inside the truck showed the driver eating while operating the vehicle. As the driver approached the red light with Glen stopped in his vehicle, he put the bag up to his mouth, then looked down, taking his eyes off of the road. The truck crashed into Glen’s car causing him permanent injuries, including a mild traumatic brain injury.
“The collision drastically affected the life of our client and his family indefinitely,” said Peschel. “I am proud to be a part of our civil justice system, which allows the truth to be determined and the people in our community to make their voices heard. The jury verdict will hopefully provide our client with some of the assistance he and his family will need in the future.”
Glen’s head was thrown through the rear window of his extended cap pick-up, as his seat back broke on impact. He underwent two spinal surgeries and suffered a mild traumatic brain injury. Glen, a truck driver himself, will never be able to drive trucks again.
“We all have to trust that professional drivers on our roads will treat their professions as just that – professions,” said Kelly. “When they fail to do so, putting us all at risk, I am thankful that the people of Bell County are able to hold them accountable. Glen lost a lot at that intersection. We are hopeful that this verdict will help him pick up the pieces.”
