Attorneys and staff of The Carlson Law Firm were heavily involved in both the organization and running of a free legal clinic for veterans. The clinic is sponsored by the Bell County Bar Association and Bell County Young Lawyers Association as part of the Texas Lawyers for Texas Veterans program.

Savannah Meyer, an attorney at The Carlson Law Firm, is the Committee Chair. She described the rationale behind the clinic, “We know we have a high population of veterans in Bell County with Fort Hood nearby, it’s a service we’re offering around the state and it hadn’t been brought to Bell County yet. This is just the Bell County Lawyers Association way of trying to help out and seeing if we can’t touch the veterans’ in our community as well.”

The most recent clinic took place on Friday, November 26 th at the Bell County Judicial Complex. Veterans were invited to come without an appointment and receive a free consultation on whatever legal issue they were facing.

Attorneys from a variety of practice areas participated, including bankruptcy, real estate, family law, criminal law and estate planning. Referrals to attorneys were also given to veterans who required additional assistance.

Representatives from Veteran’s Affairs as well as the Attorney General’s office were also available for questions.

Meyer and other attorneys found it rewarding to assist those who had served. She explained, “Our veterans have served us and given us so much, so Bell County, as part of a state-wide initiative for Texas Lawyers for Texas Veterans is wanting to help give back to veterans in some way.”

The Carlson Law Firm has 11 offices throughout Texas and provides a full array of legal services.
