Three Dead in Oil-Field Collision With School Bus on Hwy 72 In Texas

An oilfield van rear-end collision with a Three Rivers ISD school bus left three of the occupants in the van dead and several other injured, police reported.

According to reports published by KIITV, the oilfield van accident occurred on Hwy 72 in South Texas.

The oilfield workers had previously completed an overnight shift prior to the collision with the school bus, officials revealed. As a result of the impact of the crash, the van overturned. The driver and two other passengers in the van were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Authorities have not released the names of any of the victims involved.

Four other occupants in the van were transported to area hospitals by both ground ambulance and helicopter.

Twelve students were on the school bus as it was picking children up to transport them to school. All of the students appeared to endure minor injuries resulting from the South Texas accident on Highway 72.

Although investigations are still underway surrounding the oilfield van accident, police believe the driver may have been fatigued, sparking the crash.
