A sanitation worker was killed in a San Antonio auto accident when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle after stepping out of the vehicle he was working out of with his son, San Antonio police reported on Tuesday morning.
Police said the man and his son were working on New Sulphur Springs Road by Loop 410 when the accident occurred.
The victim of the fatal accident was identified as 62-year-old Pedro Almeida, of San Antonio.
Emergency officials called a helicopter to the scene of the San Antonio accident but the sanitation worker passed away from injuries he endured in the accident by the time the helicopter arrived.
The garbage truck the man was riding in was identified as a Tiger Sanitation truck, officials reported.
The garbage truck accident occurred at approximately 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. Officials believe the driver of the SUV that struck the worker was with their spouse taking a child to an East Central ISD school when they struck the man. That driver remained on the scene, police told KENS5.
