Tire Blowout Causes Crash on Hwy 44

A rollover accident caused by a Texas tire blowout outside of Agua Dulce left two people injured when their Ford Explorer was involved in a single vehicle car accident on Hwy 44.

Police identified the two people injured as a 55-year-old woman and her 14-year-old grandson. Both were transported to a local hospital in Thursday evening after one of the tires on the SUV experienced a blowout, officials said.

Although their injuries were not life-threatening and they are expected to recover, the Hwy 44 rollover comes among a string of similar tire-related accidents that have occurred all across the state as summer temperatures reach the 100’s.

Warmer temperatures can make already defective or poorly maintained tires even more vulnerable to failures.

Ford Explorers and other older models of Ford SUV’s seem to have a pattern of tire failure that some safety advocates relate back to recalls and defects discovered in the Firestone tires outfitting the vehicles years ago.
