Tire Debris Sparks SUV Rollover Accident in San Angelo, Woman Killed

A tire blowout on a vehicle driving in front of a Ballinger woman sparked an SUV rollover accident in San Angelo on Tuesday morning, officials reported.

The woman who was killed in the rollover crash in San Angelo was identified as 53-year-old Juanita Smith, who was driving a pilot vehicle owned by Safe Trip Pilot Cars, a business operated out of San Angelo.

According to police, the woman was traveling behind a vehicle that experienced a tire blowout. As a result of the blowout, Smith swerved to avoid the tire debris in the road and lost control of the SUV she was driving. The SUV, reportedly, overturned multiple times and Smith was ejected from the vehicle.

The accident occurred at approximately 10 a.m. on September 25. No other vehicles were involved and police said no other injuries have been reported.

Rollover accidents can be serious if vehicles are not equipped with proper equipment or auto equipment fails to protect occupants from the hazards associated with a rollover crash. Defective auto glass can leave occupants vulnerable to vehicle ejection or partial ejection by failing to keep them within the vehicle during an accident.
