A tour bus accident in East Texas left at least two people dead, after the driver, reportedly, made a u-turn in an attempt to return to a rest stop where travelers had been forgotten. As a result of the u-turn, an 18 wheeler truck slammed into the tour bus on Hwy 59 near FM 1794.

As a result of the tour bus collision, the bus driver and one passenger were ejected from the bus. Both were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Hwy 59. The driver of the tractor trailer was transported to a hospital in Tyler via helicopter for the treatment of a serious head injury sustained in the East Texas wreck.

Other passengers on the bus were transported to the hospital with injuries but the severity of those injuries was not noted by officials.

The bus was traveling from Houston to Chicago, according to authorities.

The actions, training, attention and health of bus drivers is a vital factor in protecting passengers as well as surrounding drivers. Negligence on the part of drivers as well as the companies who employ and hire drivers and maintenance crews can result in life-altering injuries that can affect victims and their families forever.
