A traffic accident in Belton on I-35 involving an 18 wheeler left one man dead early Friday morning after he seemed to have experienced a malfunction with his pickup truck, police said.

According to police, the pickup truck may have experienced an electrical malfunction that stopped the vehicle on the interstate. As a result, the vehicle had no lights and the driver stepped out of the truck in an attempt to find out what was wrong.

The driver of the pickup truck was looking beneath the hood when the pickup was struck by an 18 wheeler. The impact of the collision pushed the pickup truck onto the man looking under the hood. Two other occupants in the vehicle were transported to Scott & White in Temple via ground ambulance.

The accident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m.

The 18 wheeler accident on I-35 in Belton is still being investigated by officials and the driver of the big rig was taken for a routine sobriety test.
