Two Injured in Head-on Collision in San Angelo

Two people were injured in a car accident in San Angelo Friday morning, when a pickup truck hit another truck head-on after trying to pass a separate vehicle, officials said.

Police identified the driver of the truck that was passing as 19-year-old Taylor Coit, a resident of Ballinger. Coit was attempted to pass a vehicle traveling ahead, in a no-passing zone, officials said.

Coit’s truck slammed into a truck driven by 52-year-old Robert Mikula, a resident of San Angelo, who was traveling in the opposite lane of traffic on U.S. 277.

Mikula was transported to Community Medical Center with injuries resulting from the car accident in San Angelo. Although he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, police said he has a medical exemption.

Coit was transported to Shannon Medical Center via ground ambulance. He was not wearing a seatbelt and police said he will be cited for such in addition to being cited for passing in a no-pass zone.
