A minor accident turned fatal when a vehicle involved in the initial fender bender ran a red light, sparking a serious, subsequent car accident in South Austin on I-35.

Police reported that the driver of a Chevrolet sedan was in a minor accident with a van on southbound I-35. No one was reportedly injured in that initial car wreck. Following the initial crash, the sedan reportedly entered the I-35 frontage road, traveling at a high rate of speed. Police are linking the speed to the accident that followed. The Chevrolet sedan smashed into a Toyota Camry, killing two occupants in the vehicle.

The victims of the fatal Austin car accident were not yet identified and police are still investigating the scene of the car wreck. Two occupants in the Chevrolet were transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge. Police are still looking into whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the Central Texas car accident.
