Two Killed, Three Injured in Martin County 18 Wheeler Accident

Two people were killed and another three were injured in an 18 wheeler truck accident in Martin County, northwest of Midland, Monday evening.
Although police are still investigating the 18 wheeler collision, officials said the accident began when a GMC pickup truck, occupied by oil field workers, Tom Jackson and Robert Jackson, struck a Peterbilt, 18 wheeler, driven by Larry Dale Floyd, turning from Highway 176 onto a private road.
With the wreckage of the accident still lying in the roadway, a 2001 Peterbilt truck, driven by Otis Nesbit, 50, pulled to the side of the shoulder with another, unidentified vehicle, driven by Antonio Mujica, 61, in an attempt to help those involved in the crash.
While the drivers of the vehicles that stopped to help were aiding those involved in the first collision, an eastbound traveling 18 wheeler, driven by Eric Pitino, smashed into the GMC pickup, killing Mujica and Nesbit, who were outside of their vehicles.
Both Mujica and Nesbit were pronounced dead at the scene of the fatal 18 wheeler accident.
Tom Jackson was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock and was most recently listed in surgical intensive care. Robert Jackson was transported to Odessa Regional Medical Center.
Pitinio was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital. Officials said Floyd was not injured in the multi-vehicle collision involving the 18 wheeler trucks near Midland.
