Two Killed, Three Injured When Tread Separates, Car Loses Control in Reeves County

Two people were killed and three others injured, Sunday, when a vehicle experienced tread separation and lost control on Interstate 10, police said.

According to the Department of Public Safety, 28-year-old Eric Ray Yzquerdo of San Antonio was pronounced dead after he was transported to Reeves County Hospital.

Another passenger, 7-year-old Nathan Anthony Hernandez, also of San Antonio, was pronounced dead at the scene of the Reeves County Accident.

Three other passengers in the vehicle, Yolanda Marie Hernandez, 8-year-old Jessica Marie Hernandez and 3-year-old Brianna Cerezerez were all transported to local hospitals for the treatment of injuries they sustained as a result of the tread separation accident.

Officials said the tire failure caused the vehicle to crash into a wall and overturn several times.

defective tire or auto product failure occur when the outside layer of the tire comes apart from the inner layers, often causing the vehicle to lose control, roll or collide with other vehicles. Poor design and manufacturing are just some of the problems plaguing the tire industry and causing tires to separate, blow out or fail, causing serious injuries to drivers and passengers.
