A station wagon collided with a Tyler school bus, Monday, sending 18 middle school students to local hospitals, Texas Department of Public Safety officials said.
The bus was transporting 26 students home from an after school program when the station wagon struck it, leaving some of the students with whiplash and ankle injuries, authorities on the scene said. School representative noted that all of the students were treated the same day and later released.
According to troopers, the driver of the station wagon, 42-year-old Anthony Thomas, was traveling at excessive speeds and drifted into the lane where the school bus was traveling, colliding with it and provoking an accident. Thomas was charged with a misdemanor for driving with a suspended license, a charge the driver has experienced before.
