A student from Baylor was injured in a Waco accident with a public transit bus while riding a motorized scooter on Tuesday afternoon, police reported.
Although the injured student has not yet been identified, KWTX reported that the rider was struck when the bus pulled out into his path. In an attempt to avoid the Waco bus accident, the rider slid beneath the transit bus. As a result, the bus’ back wheels ran over the student’s legs.
The young man was transported to the hospital with serious injuries resulting from the scooter wreck in Waco.
Police said the accident occurred on University Parks Drive near Daughtry Avenue.
While bus drivers and drivers of commercial vehicles have a responsibility to drive in a safe manner that protects passengers in their vehicles as well as other drivers sharing the road, companies employing them also have a serious responsibility to provide proper training, equipment and follow adequate hiring standards.
