A head-on collision in Waco left several victims injured on Saturday and claimed the lives of two people, police noted.

Reports submitted by officials said that a Ford Taurus was traveling east on Hwy 84 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, veering into the opposite lane of traffic and slamming into a 2010 Hyundai sedan.

The driver of the Hyundai sedan, who was identified as Mexia resident, 61-year-old Virginia Olivarez, was pronounced dead at the scene of the Waco car accident.

Olivarez’s passenger, identified as her mother, 85-year-old Mary Jordan, was transported to a local hospital for the treatment of injuries she sustained in the collision. She was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

The driver of the Ford, identified as 22-year-old Erik Escobedo-Contreras endured serious injuries as well. He was recently listed in stable condition. His passenger, 18-year-old Jose Perez, was listed in fair condition.

Inclement weather may have been tied to the loss of control but police are still investigating the two vehicle auto accident in Waco. No charges have been filed in relation to the crash.

Weather and Car Accidents in Texas

Although weather can be a major factor in accidents and collisions, the way drivers react and take action during poor weather conditions can be an imperative factor in protecting drivers, passengers and pedestrians alike. Slowing down, paying close attention to water, rain or ice in the roadway as well as disabled vehicles pulled to the side are all important things drivers should be attentive to during rainy, ice or snowy conditions.
