Woman killed in crash on Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway
The Department of Public Safety is investigating a two-car crash that killed a 55-year-old Laguna Vista resident.
The collision occurred on the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway in South Padre Island on Friday morning.
Janet Evelyn Goggan, 55, of Laguna Vista was travelling eastbound in her Mercedes-Benz at around 8:30 a.m. when her vehicle was struck from behind by a Ford utility van belonging to Admiral Linen Services, according to police reports.
Authorities say that woman’s car stalled before being rear-ended.
Goggan died on scene, but the driver of the van was not injured, police reported.
Police were forced to shut down the causeway for almost 5 hours, leaving motorists stranded, as the causeway is the only connection from mainland to South Padre Island.
An investigation into the cause of the causeway collision is still underway.
