A rollover accident in Mont Belvieu on Monday night left one woman dead and five other occupants injured in a single vehicle accident on Hwy 146 near FM 1942, police announced Tuesday.

Although the woman has yet to be identified, officials reported that she and six other people in the Ford Expedition SUV were ejected from the vehicle after the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned several times.

Officials are still unsure what may have caused the driver to lose control of the Ford SUV in the rollover.

Authorities said the woman who was killed was a passenger, seated in the back seat of the vehicle. Another passenger, the driver and three children were transported to Memorial Herman Medical Center via helicopter for the treatment of injuries they sustained in the single vehicle accident. An updated regarding their conditions has not yet been provided, police said.

Ford Expedition SUV’s especially older models have long been associated with rollover crashes. With a high propensity for overturning, a history of serious tire defects and other problems, Ford SUV’s continue to spark problems for some drivers and passengers, long after inadequate equipment was pinpointed.
