Woman Killed in Bell County Rollover Accident on FM 93

A rollover accident in Bell County on FM 93 claimed the life of a woman and left three other occupants, including two children in serious condition on Thursday afternoon, police said.

According to reports, the woman who was killed in the single vehicle accident was the driver of the vehicle. Police said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the rollover crash outside Temple, Texas.

The victim who was killed in the single vehicle accident was identified by officials in a KWTX news report as 66-year-old Hazel Nopupi, a resident of Little River.

The Bell County accident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon on Old Highway 95 when the driver appeared to have lost control of a Ford Mustang.

Although Nopupi was, reportedly, wearing a seatbelt, she was partially ejected from the vehicle as it overturned. The driver was reportedly a resident of Little River-Academy.

Technology and new information allows automakers to outfit vehicles with safety equipment and parts that protect occupants from serious injuries associated with rollover accidents. Seatbelts, airbags, the type of glass used within the vehicle and even the strength of the roof can all play an important role in protecting drivers and passengers and preventing ejection from the vehicle. In some situations where defective auto equipment fails, occupants may be vulnerable to serious head injuries, neck injuries and back injuries as well and injuries caused by ejection from the car, truck or SUV.

While the victims of rollover accidents and the loved ones who’ve lost a family member or friend may search for answers and feel guilt following such an accident, some situations may have been prevented with adequate safety equipment and vehicles that operate as they were designed and according to NHTSA standards.
