A Houston woman who had just finished celebrating her 45th birthday with loved ones was killed in an accident as she traveled home in Montgomery County, police reported.

According to officials, Tammy Rhoades was traveling along Interstate 45 when she stopped to help the driver of a vehicle that had a flat tire.

After putting turning on the flashing hazard lights, Rhoades truck was struck from behind by a white pickup truck, said witnesses. The rear-end accident occurred with such impact that the seats in Rhoades vehicle were knocked out of the pickup truck.

The car accident occurred in a construction zone where there was very little space for vehicle to pull over, provoking police to encourage driver to make sure to locate a safe place to change a tire if possible.

The driver of the white pickup truck that caused the fatal accident, 21-year-old Tyler Shelton, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.
