A female pedestrian, crossing Hwy 90 near Military drive, was struck and killed by a vehicle in San Antonio, Department of Public Safety officials said on Thursday.
According to police, the vehicle that struck the unidentified woman was traveling behind a black pickup truck, whose driver appeared to see the woman and braked. The sedan behind that pickup attempted to go around the slowing truck and struck the woman as a result.
The woman, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene of the San Antonio pedestrian accident.
Community members told KSAT news that it is very common for pedestrians to cross Hwy 90 in that region, though police suggest pedestrians use the underpass to cross.
The San Antonio pedestrian accident snarled traffic, shutting down portions of Hwy 90 while police investigated the scene.
Paying close attention to drivers surrounding and their reactions is often a valuable indicator for drivers, who may not otherwise see some of the hazards nearby.
