Two pedestrians were killed in Galveston, Saturday when they were struck by a man accused of his thirddriving while intoxicated offense (DWI), according to police.
Thirty-four-year-old Amanda Medlock of Deer Park was pronounced dead at the scene of the car accident.
According to Galveston police, Medlock was walking to the beach with 36-year-old Vincent Jeffus, of Cleveland, when they were struck by a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr.
Jeffus was discovered alive at the scene, despite life-threatening injuries, officials said. Transported to the University of Texas Medical Branch, Jeffus’ condition is still unknown, though he was not listed as a patient on Monday.
The driver of the Lincoln was identified by police as Felix Dominic Garza, 30, of Texas City. Garza has been jailed on $150,000 in bonds for felony charges of manslaughter, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and driving while intoxicated, third offense.
Officers on the scene ordered a mandatory blood draw of Garza, who refused a field sobriety test. Officials are awaiting toxicology results, which may amend charges against Garza.
