Woman riding horse killed when struck by truck

A 25-year-old woman was killed when she was hit by a truck while riding a horse.

At 6:40 p.m. Friday, Michelle Loher from Fort Hood was riding a horse about five miles outside of Copperas Cove near Perryman Creek Road. She was riding the horse southbound over the Table Rock Bridge according to Safety Trooper D.L. Wilson.

A driver traveling southbound attempted to pass an 18-wheeler when he hit the woman on the horse.

“The woman was wearing dark clothing on a dark horse and the driver didn’t see her until it was too late,” said Wilson.

Loher and the horse died after the crash.

The driver was a 45-year-old man driving a salvage truck owned by Cen-Tex Scrap and Metal.

It is against the law to pass a vehicle within 10 feet from a bridge in Texas.

The incident is still under investigation.

The driver is not injured. Prayers go out to the family of the woman for this tragic event.
