An oil rig caught fire in Newton, Texas, injuring three workers, one of whom was transported via helicopter to a hospital for injuries related to the truck accident.

According to officials, the truck was being used to pump hot oil, but caught fire on the Southeast Texas jobsite for unknown reasons.

Two of the injured workers were treated at the scene of the workplace accident, though the third was flown to a Galveston hospital.

It is still unclear what sparked the oil rig fire and the identities of the injured employees have not yet been revealed.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2010, in Texas alone, there were 456 fatal injuries incurred on the job by Texas employees. Eighteen of those fatalities were caused by fire or explosion, the Bureau said.

A workplace injury is one that occurs on-the-job, within the premises, provoked by factors related to employment efforts. While a Texas workplace injury can take place in a variety of settings, from a warehouse to an office space to a garage, employers are responsible for providing adequate information regarding safe practices as well as protective equipment to prevent ailments that may result from environments, products used on the job and actions completed.

There are an array of factors that can provoke a Texas workplace injury, including:

  • Defective equipment
  • Inadequate safety standards
  • Poor workplace hygiene
  • Negligent organization and orderliness
  • Lacking information and training
