Young Gainesville Woman Dies From Nacogdoches Accident Rollover Injuries

A young Gainesville woman died from injuries she endured in a car accident in Nacogdoches, Texas on Sunday, officials said.

The woman, identified as 20-year-old Victoria Ray Rule, was struck by another vehicle, causing her 1998 Ford Explorer to overturn, rolling a couple times before coming to a rest, Nacogdoches police said. Rule was ejected from the vehicle during the Ford Explorer rollover accident.

Emergency officials said Rule endured serious head injuries as well as a ruptured spleen as a result of the Nacogdoches rollover accident. She was transported to a local hospital where she passed away as a result of the massive injuries she experienced.

Police initially reported that Rule was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the Nacogdoches car accident, although a passenger in the Ford Explorer, riding with Rule said she was, in fact, wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Authorities identified the passenger in the SUV with Rule as 18-year-old Victoria Cowart. Cowart was transported to Nacogdoches Hospital and later released.

The driver of the Volkswagen that struck the SUV was identified as 16-year-old Kiona Nikale Wilson of Nacogdoches. She was also transported to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. She was later released.

Rule is survived by a young son.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Victoria Rule.

Ford Explorers, especially earlier models, have been a product that has struggled with defects that make drivers and passengers susceptible to serious head injuries, neck injuries, spine injuries and brain injuries caused when the roof of the vehicle impacts the ground or other surface.

In some instances, those who suffer from serious injuries as a result of a rollover accident should have been protected by safety features and equipment in the vehicle. Glass, seatbelts, airbags and even the pillars of the SUV’s roof have the design and technological capabilities to keep vehicle occupants within the car while protecting the space between the occupant’s head and the roof of the vehicle.
