The attorneys are The Carlson Law Firm are investigating potential lawsuits on behalf of men who used testosterone therapies and suffered from heart attacks, strokes or other serious medical conditions. Testosterone therapies and other “low-T” treatments, which are available as testosterone gels, patches, pellets, and injections, have recently been linked to an increased risk of cardiac problems in older and middle-aged men with a history of heart disease.
To date, 7,513 testosterone lawsuits have been filed against AbbVie, Eli Lilly & Co., Pfizer Inc., Endo International and other testosterone-product manufacturers.
The litigation is in the bellwether trial phase. This means a few representative cases are going to trial first. The outcome of these cases could decide the fate of 7,000-plus lawsuits still pending. These trials are scheduled to continue into 2018.
- Heart Attack: A study published in February 2017 in the Journal of the American Medical Association found an association between testosterone treatment and a significant increase of coronary artery plaque, which can reduce the flow of oxygen to the heart.
- Stroke: Studies found men who used testosterone products were 30 percent more likely to suffer from strokes. According to a Los Angeles Times report, some of the study participants had to undergo “emergency artery-clearing.
-Deep Vein Thrombosis: Clinical and Applied Thrombosis/Hemostasis published a study in 2013 that found 1.2 percent of men who were hospitalized for deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism had developed the blood clots within three months of starting testosterone therapy.
- Sudden Death
Treating a stroke, heart attack, or other cardiac event is often a difficult and expensive undertaking. In addition, when a loved one passes away from a cardiac event, the surviving family members are often left with substantial medical bills. A product liability lawsuit can allow patients and their loved ones to obtain compensation for medical costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Furthermore, taking legal action can help hold manufacturers accountable for releasing dangerous and defective products into the marketplace.
At The Carlson Law Firm, we believe that the manufacturers of these testosterone therapies had a duty to warn patients about the risk of heart attack and stroke, but failed to provide any indication of these potential side effects on their products’ labeling or advertising materials.
If you or a loved one suffered a heart attack, stroke, pulmonary embolism or another serious side effect while on testosterone therapy, our attorneys may be able to help you file a Testosterone lawsuit seeking compensation for medical bills, pain and suffering and other damages.
