Texas Jury Awards $61M in Products Liability Case Against Honda After Car Wreck |

Philip Koelsch is a catastrophic injury attorney at The Carlson Law Firm dedicated to helping people and families rebuild their lives after a devastating loss. With a background rooted in hard work and compassion, Philip approaches every case with a deep commitment to justice and an unshakeable resolve to see it through, no matter how challenging the circumstances.

Philip earned his Bachelor of Arts with Special Honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 2015. He went on to receive a Juris Doctor from Baylor University School of Law in 2018. While at Baylor, Philip excelled academically, receiving the Dean’s Excellence Full Tuition Scholarship and serving on the Baylor Law Review.
Philip’s work spans a wide range of personal injury and mass tort cases, including wrongful death, defective products, workplace injuries, premises liability, commercial vehicle crashes, and catastrophic injury claims. In his work, he has also represented victims of terrorism and mass shootings, fighting to hold negligent and reckless parties accountable.
In 2025, Philip helped secure a $61.84 million jury verdict in Moreno v. Honda (Hidalgo County, TX, 275th Judicial District Court). The case, which many lawyers deemed “unwinnable,” involved a fuel-system defect in a 2012 Honda Odyssey that caused the tragic burn deaths of two occupants. Despite evidence that the other driver was more than three times the legal alcohol limit and traveling well above the speed limit, Philip and his co-counsel overcame the odds and proved that the subject vehicle’s design was dangerously defective.
For Philip, success is not defined by verdicts or settlements but by the impact on the lives of his clients through his work. In one wrongful death case, a grieving mother shared that while the settlement confirmed her son was truly gone, Philip’s dedication ensured her son “kept his promise to take care of us when we got older.” For Philip, moments like these are a reminder that every case is about people, not paperwork, and that justice can offer both accountability and healing for grieving families.
Philip is licensed to practice law in Texas and in the U.S. District Courts for the Western, Southern, Northern, and Eastern Districts of Texas, as well as the District of Columbia. Philip is a recognized member of both the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum. He is also a member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and the Capital Area Trial Lawyers Association.
Outside the courtroom, Phil volunteers for Meals on Wheels Central Texas and enjoys boating on Lake Travis with family and friends. He lives in Austin with his wife and their two young sons.
