Parents are being urged to check their children’s toys after a recall involving plush toys sold nationwide due to a potential choking hazard. The recall involves two clip-on plush toys: a Giraffe Plush Toy with clip and a Llama Plush toy with clip.
According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, Hobby Lobby Stores Inc. has recalled more than 21,000 plush toys after discovering that parts of the toys can detach and release small beads that may pose a risk to young children.
Safety officials say the toys’ legs can detach from the body, potentially releasing small beads contained inside the legs. While only one incident has been reported so far, federal safety officials warn that loose small parts can present serious choking hazards for infants and toddlers.
What Toys are Included in the Recall
The recall includes two plush toys sold at Hobby Lobby stores nationwide and online at hobbylobby.com between May 2025 and December 2025. The toys were priced between $6 and $8.

The recall was announced Jan. 29, 2026, and affects an estimated 21,230 units. If you have recently purchased either plush toy from Hobby Lobby, parents are encouraged to check the printed label to know if their giraffe or llama could be a defective toy.
Small Parts in Choking Hazard Toy Recall
Young children frequently explore objects by putting them in their mouths, which makes detachable parts especially dangerous. When small beads or components break loose from toys, they can become choking hazards.
The Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital warns that a child could choke on any object that fits inside a toilet tissue roll. Even toys designed for infants or toddlers can become unsafe if they contain manufacturing defects or poorly secured components.
Product safety experts warn that issues involving detachable parts can signal larger problems with quality control or manufacturing.
Signs a Toy May be Defective
Parents and caregivers should regularly inspect children’s toys and stop using them if they notice any of the following:
- Loose seams or stitching
- Detachable limbs or components
- Beads or stuffing leaking from the toy
- Parts that easily pull away from the body of the toy
- Cracks in plastic attachments or clips
The Nationwide Children’s Hospital finds that more than half of toy-related injuries happen to children younger than 5 years old. If a toy breaks during normal use, it may indicate a manufacturing problem that could affect other products from the same production run.
When Dangerous Products Cause Harm
Importers, retailers and manufacturers have a responsibility to make sure the products they sell are safe for consumers, especially when those products are intended for children. Under product liability law, companies may be held responsible if a product causes injury due to:
- Failure to warn consumers about potential hazards
- Manufacturing defects that cause parts to break or detach
- Design flaws that make a product unsafe for its intended use
When dangerous products reach store shelves, recalls can help prevent injuries. However, families may still have legal options with a product liability attorney if a defective product causes harm.
Protecting Families from Defective Children’s Toys
While no injuries have been reported in connection with this recall, incidents involving defective children’s toys can quickly turn dangerous. Recalls like this one highlight the importance of monitoring consumer safety alerts and inspecting children’s products regularly.
If a defective product causes an injury, family may be able to seek compensation for medical expenses and other damages. A personal injury lawyer at The Carlson Law Firm can represent individuals and families harmed by unsafe consumer products to hold companies accountable.
