There are usually two main stages of juvenile proceedings.
Adjudication Hearing
This stage is similar to a trial in adult criminal court. The judge determines whether the minor engaged in the alleged conduct.
Disposition Hearing
If the court determines that there was delinquent conduct, the case moves to disposition. Possible outcomes may include:
- Probation supervision
- Counseling or treatment programs
- Community service requirements
- Placement in a juvenile facility
The goal of the juvenile system is generally rehabilitation rather than punishment, but consequences can be serious. If a minor is facing charges of alcohol-related offenses or other delinquent conduct, contact The Carlson Law Firm.
