Emerging Reports of Stomach Paralysis

Recent reports have raised concerns about a potential link between Ozempic and stomach paralysis, also known as gastroparesis. Gastroparesis is a condition in which the stomach muscles do not function properly, leading to delayed emptying of the stomach contents into the small intestine.

Claims link the drug to severe and potentially life-threatening side effects, including the following:

  • Gastroparesis/Stomach Paralysis
  • Persistent Vomiting
  • Persistent Nausea
  • Diarrhea

Alleged Link and Legal Actions

Some individuals who have taken Ozempic have reported experiencing symptoms consistent with gastroparesis, which has led to legal actions against Novo Nordisk. Plaintiffs in these cases claim that the medication contributed to the development of stomach paralysis and that the manufacturers failed to adequately warn them and healthcare providers about this potential risk.

Key Allegations Include:

  • Delayed Gastric Emptying: Individuals who have experienced gastroparesis after taking Ozempic allege that the medication might have contributed to the delayed emptying of their stomachs, causing discomfort and potentially exacerbating their diabetes management.
  • Insufficient Warning: Lawsuits argue that Novo Nordisk did not sufficiently warn patients and medical professionals about the possible risk of stomach paralysis associated with Ozempic. Plaintiffs suggest that a lack of proper warning prevented them from making informed treatment decisions.
  • Quality of Life Impact: Gastroparesis can significantly affect an individual’s quality of life, leading to chronic discomfort, dietary restrictions, and potential complications related to diabetes management.

How is Semaglutide Supposed to Work?

Ozempic and Wegovy are made by Novo Nordisk. The drugs uses semaglutide to copy a hormone in our bodies called GLP-1. This hormone helps slow down how quickly our stomachs empty, which can help people feel full for longer.

The Impact on Ozempic Users

The alleged adverse effects of Ozempic have prompted legal actions from affected individuals seeking compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages. The lawsuits also aim to hold the manufacturers accountable for allegedly inadequate safety warnings and misleading marketing.

The First Ozempic Lawsuit Filed

A woman from Louisiana has filed a lawsuit claiming that she became extremely ill from using Ozempic which her doctor prescribed to her. In addition to helping diabetic patients, these medications have become wildly popular for weight loss.

The 44-year-old patient used Ozempic for about a year until July 2023, when she began using Mounjaro. She’s suing Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly because the companies failed to warn about the side effects of severe stomach problems from taking the drugs.

What does the lawsuit allege?

In her lawsuit, she alleges that using Ozempic and Mounjaro gave her severe stomach issues, contributed to a mental health crisis, and led to costly medical bills.

She says that she experienced the following:

  • Chronic vomiting
  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Hospitalization
  • Losing teeth because of throwing up too much
  • Needing more medicine to stop the throwing up
  • Throwing up food hours after eating

The lawsuit says that both Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly probably knew that taking drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro could lead to these problems; however, they failed to provide any significant warning.

Damages

In the lawsuit, she seeks compensation for her pain and suffering, the money she spent on medical care, keeping an eye on her health in the future, attorney’s fees, and covering the court process costs.

How Do I Know if I Have Gastroparesis?
