[Killeen]āThe Carlson Law Firm joined efforts at the Advanced Family Law 2025, hosted by TexasBarCLE and co-sponsored by the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. Several Carlson attorneys attended this year’s conference, held Aug. 4-7 at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter. The firm’s participation included a presentation by one of its board-certified attorneys and a Mix & Mingle event at local gem, Rosario’s.
The Carlson Law Firm’s board-certified family law partner, Cassandra Golder, co-presented with Amarillo attorney Laura Copp on preparing for the Texas Board of Legal Specialization exam in Family Law. In Texas, board certification is a mark of experience and proven expertise. Less than 1% of Texas attorneys hold this distinction. Golder shared strategies and encouragement for attorneys pursuing this distinctionāa worthwhile tool to fight for clients and an important assurance for families seeking premier legal representation while navigating complex legal challengesĀ in family law. Earlier this year,Ā Carlson’s commitmentĀ to excellence in the family law arena was underscored by three attorneysā election for Wilco BarĀ positions.Ā Partner Cheryl Miller-Powell was electedĀ president,Ā and Alejandro Lopez and Emily Spjut were elected as director and secretary of the Young Lawyers Section.Ā
The lineup was curated to include value for family law attorneys from a wide range of practice focuses. While the conference officially started on Monday, attorneys had the option to arrive a day early and enjoy the Family 101 course where each topic was presented in the frame of a Queen song. Monday’s schedule included a message from the Family Law Chair and updates from the Supreme Court, property case law, the 17th Annual Image Seminar and Fashion Show, and an analysis of generative AI evidence. On Tuesday, the sessions featured a mix of updates, practical skills, and ethics-focused presentations, law updates on SAPCR, guidance on dealing with non-lawyer opposing counsel, AI applications in law, and tips for mediators and serving disabled clients.
Midway through the week, The Carlson Law Firm hosted a Mix & Mingle at Rosario’s, complete with the restaurantās distinctive flavors, lively conversation and thoughtful swag. The welcoming San Antonio atmosphere was the perfect backdrop for the attorneysā networking event. It was an afternoon to unwind, exchange ideas, and enjoy each other’s company after a couple full days of sessions, and refresh for the sessions ahead. The firm greeted participating attorneys at the door with thoughtful swag and a ticket to participate in exciting giveaways, including a set of AirPod Max.
Thursday closed the week with three tracks attorneys could choose from, with sessions focusing on relevant topics in Technology, Courtroom Skills, or Post-Judgement. The tracks offered practical takeaways on everything from AI and digital advocacy to witness preparation and post-judgement strategies. These sessions gave attorneys tools to navigate the modern courtroom and strengthen advocacy for Texas families. Ā
