KILLEEN, Texas – The Carlson Law Firm’s Carlson Cares initiative helped Texas students prepare for the 2026-27 school year by giving away 2,100 backpacks and 33,678 school supplies in five communities across the state.
From Wichita Falls to South Austin, families gathered at events throughout July and August for free backpacks, school supplies and family-friendly activities to celebrate the start of a new school year.
The events reflect The Carlson Law Firm’s ongoing commitment to supporting the communities it serves both inside and outside the courtroom. Since launching its first backpack giveaway in 2018, Carlson Cares has continued expanding the program to reach students and families throughout Texas.
“As the firm grows, we’ve been grateful for the opportunity to give back to more families in our communities,” said Craig Carlson, managing partner at The Carlson Law Firm. “Between clothes, supplies, lunch money and everything else that comes with a new school year, costs add up quickly and we’re thankful to be able to help with part of that.”
Supporting Families Across Texas
This year’s Carlson Cares backpack campaign reached five Texas communities, providing students with backpacks and thousands of supplies for the upcoming school year.
- Waco: 600 backpacks
- Wichita Falls: 250 backpacks
- Killeen: 700 backpacks
- San Marcos: 200 backpacks
- South Austin: 350 backpacks prepared
Across all five communities, Carlson Cares prepared 2,100 backpacks and 33,678 individual school supplies for the 2026 backpack campaign.
Many locations also featured games, snacks, prizes and other family-friendly activities, turning the giveaways into opportunities for families, local businesses and community organizations to come together before school starts.
More Than a Backpack
For Carlson Cares, the annual backpack giveaways are about more than handing out school supplies. They are an opportunity to invest in students while helping ease some of the financial pressure families face at the beginning of each school year.
“We realized backpacks gave us a way to show support that lasted beyond a single day,” said Carlson. “Our backpack events have grown from that understanding to ease a little of the back-to-school burden for parents while giving students confidence and helping them prepare for the year ahead.”
With more than 33,000 school supplies included in this year’s campaign, students received practical tools they can use in classrooms throughout the school year. Whether a child was entering kindergarten, starting high school or heading off to college, each event was designed to help students begin the year prepared and ready to learn.
