New home for Nursing Home Guru, J.T. Borah

The Carlson Law Firm is proud to welcome attorney J.T. Borah to the team.

J.T. is known around these parts as the “Nursing Home Guru.” For the past several years, the focus of his practice has been nursing home neglect and abuse cases. Pursuing these types of cases requires experience, knowledge, professionalism and drive – all of which J.T. has plenty of.

Over the past five years, J.T. has handled upwards of 250 nursing home neglect and abuse cases. He has been able to obtain substantial settlements for his clients in their fight against nursing homes and nursing home corporations.

Proving institutional abuse is often a difficult task because in some cases, victims are too afraid or physically unable to speak for themselves. J.T. has quickly become a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

J.T. has found that nursing homes cases can be a uphill battle because in many cases, clinical records are needed in order to prove negligence or abuse. Often, those clinical records don’t reflect the truth, therefore it is impossible to prove negligence. J.T. is able to overcome this hurdle by tapping into his years of experience.

J.T.’s biggest motivator for taking on complex nursing home cases? His desire to affect change in the level of care that is provided to the elderly in Texas.

“That is why I am committed to having a volume practice. I have been able to get the attention of a particular nursing home and a particular nursing home chain by having 10-12 cases against them,” he says.  “Short of that, a single settlement of $100,000, $150,000, or even $200,000 means nothing to a nursing home that is clearing $2,000,000 each year in profits or a nursing home chain that is clearly tens, or even hundreds, of millions in profits each year.”

“The bottom-line for these places is the bottom-line.  Unless and until one is able to negatively affect their bottom-line they will continue to provide substandard care to the elderly in Texas,” says J.T.

J.T. also has an extensive background in criminal defense and personal injury law.

He is a member of State Bar of Texas, Capital Area Trial Lawyers Association, Texas Trial Lawyers Association, American Association for Justice and the Nursing Home Litigation Group.

J.T. was born in Greenville S.C., and has lived in Pennsylvania, Florida, Illinois and Texas. Him and his wife have been blessed with two children and 30 years of marriage.
