An 18-year-old Azele High School Senior died Thursday afternoon in a truck accident, north of Highway 199, officials said. Stephen Wright was a passenger in a car driven by his older brother when the car was hitby an oncoming pick-up truck.
Trapped inside the car, witnesses say, Wright died at the scene of the accident. The crash victim’s brother was transported to the hospital with injuries. The status of his condition and the name of the brother has not yet been revealed, authorities note.
Officials said the truck may not have been able to stop in time, as the car made a left hand turn, because of slick roads resulting from rain. One other person was injured in the accident but police are not disclosing their identity until family is notified.
Grief counselors are available to support students today, school representatives said.
