An auto collision near Itasca left one woman dead and two others injured on Texas Hwy 81 on Thursday afternoon officials said.

Police identified the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident as 25-year-old Samantha Renee Pelham.

Pelham’s daughter, identified as 4-year-old Savanah Marie Pelham, was transported to Cook’s Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth for the treatment of injuries she endured in the Hill County car accident.

In addition, 29-year-old Jose Botello-Ponce, a resident of Hillsboro, was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. He was recently listed in good condition.

According to police, Botello-Ponce was driving a 1999 Ford pickup truck when his tire experienced tread separation on the driver’s side, rear tire.

The tread separation caused the driver to lose control of the pickup truck, swerving into the oncoming lane of traffic. The pickup truck struck a 2002 Hyundai that was driven by Pelham.

Tread separation and tire blowouts can often result in single vehicle accidents, causing vehicles to overturn. But while rollover accidents are a common result of tread separation, tire failure can also affect surrounding vehicles, drivers and passengers. Loss of control can provoke a vehicle which has experienced tire failure, can cause a driver to veer into the opposite lane of traffic.
