Goodyear Recalls Wrangler Silent Armor Tires

Goodyear announced a tire recall, Monday, which includes as many as 41,000 light truck tires because of the possibility of tread separation that could provoke serious car accidents.

The Goodyear tire recall affects Wrangler Silent Armor tires, manufactured between March 31 and May 31, 2009.

According to Goodyear, the company discovered the tire failure, stemming from possible tread separation, after receiving high levels of returns from consumers, based on their warranties. Goodyear has been monitoring the tires since May 2010 but claim they have found no safety issues.

At least two people have been killed in accidents caused by tread separation that occurred in the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor Tires, according to an article published in the Chicago Tribune.

Although Goodyear has said consumers who purchased the tires will be notified by March 22nd of this year, it is often advised that customers should not wait to receive notification of a recall, and should instead contact the manufacturer and dealers as soon as they discover a recall has been issued as a result of bad tire defects.

The tires recalled by Goodyear include:

  • LT235/80R17 LRE
  • LT325/60R18 LRE
  • LT275/70R18 LRE
  • LT265/70R17 LRE
  • LT245/75R17 LRE
  • LT285/70R17 LRD

Tire blowouts, tread separation and tire explosions are just some of the deadly results that can be provoked by defective tires, causing drivers to lose control and sparking serious rollover accidents.

In some cases, tire manufacturers scrimp on the design and production processes in order to protect their bottom line, while putting drivers and passengers at risk of enduring a fatal or serious injury inducing crash.
