One Killed in Hwy 6 Accident with Stopped Wrecker, One Injured

A Saturday accident on Highway 6 left one person dead this weekend, when their pickup truck slammed into a wrecker truck stopped on the side of the highway helping the victim of a previous, minor accident, officials said.

Police identified the two victims as 66-year-old Houston resident, Esteban Ticas, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Highway 6 outside Waco.

The other victim was identified as 41-year-old Robert Ruiz. According to authorities, Ruiz was transported to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, where he was being treated for critical injuries.

Police reported that it was raining at the time of the car accident in MClennan County.

The wrecker that was parked on the side of the road was aiding victims of a previous collision near the intersection of Harrison Road and Highway 6. No one else was injured in the crash. Police are still investigating the auto accident and believe speed may have been a factor in the collision.

Despite rainy conditions, the way passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and emergency vehicles pull to the side of the road can have a great impact on the safety of those sharing the road and passersby. Signaling their presence to oncoming vehicles is imperative to preventing subsequent collisions. Flare, triangles and proper signage is a good way to notify oncoming vehicles of their presence while clearing roadways of other collisions and cleaning debris and vehicles.
