Two Texas residents were killed by a 19-year-old drunk driver in Vermont Thursday, state police said.
Zyra Flores, 53, of San Antonio, was pronounced dead after he was transported to a Vermont hospital that evening.
Flores was traveling as a passenger along Vermont Route 14 when Carlos Garcia, who was under the influence of alcohol, tried to pass the vehicle in front of him, colliding with Flores’ car. Fifty-one-year-old Karen Crouch, also of San Antonio, was driving the vehicle Flores was riding in. Crouch was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The status of her injuries has not yet been released.
According to police on the scene, Garcia was “substantially intoxicated” and is now facing charges of gross negligent operation with fatality resulting and DUI. He is currently guarded while hospitalized in Burlington.
Injured driver, Karen Crouch is a former Bexar Couty Judge, well known in the San Antonio community.
