How Did VA Claims Insider Mislead Veterans?

VA Claims Insider is a for-profit company that positions itself as a company that sells “education-based” memberships that provide coaching and consulting services to Veterans who need help obtaining disability benefits from the VA. The company promotes certain services as free before locking Veterans into contracts that demand excessive amounts of money. According to a complaint filed by the Texas Attorney General, this contract includes potentially illegal services or assistance it doesn’t provide. Further, Veterans are then obligated to pay the company up to six times the increase in disability benefits after signing on with VA Claims Insider.

What Is in the VA Claims Insider Contract?

According to a statement from the Attorney General’s Office, the VA Claims Insider (VACI) contract states the following:

Veterans can terminate the contract at any time with a 30-day written notice.

Even with contract termination, VACI still demands payment for any subsequent increases in disability or $5,000 in damages if the customer fails to notify it of an increase within one week.

Further, the company often requests that Veterans turn over their private information and VA account logins.

Through its advertising, the company fails to disclose that it is in no way accredited by the VA, cannot provide claim preparation services, and that the VA previously sent a cease-and-desist letter to VACI for potentially violating the law.

The Importance of Accredited Representation

Working with accredited representation is crucial for Veterans filing disability claims. Accredited representatives are trained and authorized to advise on VA benefits and prepare and present claims. This ensures veterans receive knowledgeable, ethical, and practical assistance, maximizing their chances of obtaining rightful benefits. Accredited representatives under the complex VA system can navigate it efficiently, helping to avoid common pitfalls and delays that can occur with unaccredited or misleading services.
